Satellite Pictures
I was playing with this earlier in the week, but tonight I got pretty obsessed with the new Google Satellite pictures deal. Here's a few things I looked at tonight:
Niagara Falls.
Where I lived when I was a kid.
The Mackinaw Bridge.
Fort Macon, NC.
State Capitol Building, Raleigh, NC.
I could go on all night.
Other Stuff:
Finally finished my much vaunted Confederate Monument article (I actually started writing it last August) and turned it in to the journal I hope will publish it. I don't think I have much of a chance, but I'll never know until I try. Now I have a shorter one (eight pages) to write for an encyclopedia, that one's due the first of May.
Reading:
The Waterman's Song: Slavery and Freedom in Maritime North Carolina, by David Cecelski, UNC Press, 2001.
The Confident Hope of a Miracle: The True History of the Spanish Armada, by Neil Hanson, Knopf, 2005.
Last Watched:
His Girl Friday, 1940.
P.S.
If you haven't seen the documentary The Old Negro Space Program, do yourself a favor and take ten minutes and watch it.
