My New York Adventure: or, Bite the Big Apple, Don't Mind the Maggots

I went to New York city for the first time in my life last Thursday. It was kind of a last minute deal. My friend Jack had some business to take care of in New Jersey and he said if I rode with him we'd go to New York for a day.

We left at 7 PM on Wednesday night and got there about eight hours later. We stayed with a friend of his in High Bridge, New Jersey. It was a very nice area and not at all like I had pictured New Jersey. When we rode the train into the city around noon on Thursday, I did get to see a lot of the apocalyptic wastelands of Jersey. Pools of fetid water with transformers and power lines sticking out of them. The ground looked truly alien, some kind of mixture of slag, gravel, and debris. It was unholy, everything created by God had been erased from the earth.

We arrived at Penn Station, checked out Times Square and some of the streets around there, then walked about 40 blocks up 5th Avenue to the Metropolitan Museum of Art where we saw a nice Gilbert Stuart show. We didn't have time to do the whole museum, but checked out the American wing and saw lots of mind-blowing paintings by people like Winslow Homer and John Singer Sargent.

That was the main event as far as the trip to the city went. The morning before we went to the city I said, "I'm going to wrestle that town to the ground, tear out its throat with my teeth and make it my bitch." Jack said I didn't even come close.

Lots of adventures and lots of fun of the type when you are in a car with a good friend at 3 AM after you've spent three days together and laughing at some really dumb shit.

Hopefully I'll have a few pictures to post later this week.
