God, I Love the South
I say "God, I Love the South" in the same way I might say "God, I love the movie Plan 9 From Outer Space." Some things are so fucked up they are great. Don't get me wrong, I love North Carolina, and southern history is so rich and fucked up contradictory I will not be able to live long enough to learn everything about it I want to.
I was doing some reading on the Reconstruction era in NC (still hacking away on that monument stuff) and found out this following item was put in the 1868 state constitution:
"This State shall ever remain a member of the American Union; the people thereof are part of the American nation; there is no right on the part of this State to secede; and all attempts, from whatever source or upon whatever pretext, to dissolve this Union or to sever this Nation, shall be resisted with the whole power of the State."
After reading that I thought, as I'm sure all of you did, "Surely they took that part out when they revised the state constitution in 1971!" Well, they didn't, its still in there. I think secession was wrong, and slavery was evil, but I think its kind of cool to live in a state where the Federal Government forced you to put something in your constitution saying you won't secede.
Speaking of Civil War . . .
What in the hell do these people think they are doing?
I want my country back!
I'm not even gonna dignify this bullshit with a comment.
