A Fun Weekend
I had a nice weekend. I drove to Charlotte, where I met 19th Century Lady and we trekked up to Lenoir. With that city as a home base, we knocked around Caldwell County one day and drove up to Mountain City, Tennessee and its environs. We had hoped to make it to Abbingdon, Virginia but there were too many ice-cream places and antique stores on the way.
On Saturday stopped and had lunch at one place where I had three scrambled eggs, two big hunks of country ham, home fries w/pepper & onions, toast, and coffee for only $5.75. They had to bring it out on two plates. That is my kind of restaurant. Friday for lunch was homemade roast beef and tomato sandwiches and Saturday night dinner was steaks cooked outside. Gastronomic glory.
One of my favorite parts of the trip: we stopped at the Caldwell County Heritage Museum so I could research the local Confederate Monument. The lady I was with new the director of the place and he fixed me up with a bunch of stuff, including some photos of when they used to decorate the monument for Christmas back in the 1950's.
