Weird, Cool Little Thing at Work #23B:
Yesterday I photocopied some tax lists from Granville County from the 1770's. They were in little booklets, about 3 X 5 inches. The back of one of the booklets had the following pages. I thought it was kind of cool. Some little apprentice or new guy clerk was practicing his penmanship. Sometimes you'll see things on the back of documents like lines and swirls where the clerk was warming up or getting his pen right, but this is the first time I saw a little ditty.
"All letters even at hed and feet must stand,
Bear light your pen and keep a steady hand"
