Something That Bothers the Hell Out of Me
I've read enough history and keep up with current events enough to think I can't be surprised by what people are capable of doing to each other. But one thing bothers the hell out of me whenever it happens.
It's this practice of kidnapping people in Iraq, then beheading them and posting the footage on the internet. Putting aside any questions about the lack of justification for the war in Iraq or the fact a lot of people in the Mideast have a pretty legitimate reason to hate the United States: How the hell did we get to the point where we behead people on the internet? (By "we" I mean the human race). What is the process? What is the step before you decide to do that? Imagine the conversation when this line was crossed:
"Hey, lets take a polaroid of his dead body and mail it to his family!"
"Oh wait, we've got digital cameras, we can email it to them."
"Email, shmemail, lets videotape it and put it on the web for everyone to see!"
I'm not trying to get laughs at the expense of these poor people, I just don't see how people can do this. The beheading of the hostages, coupled with that shit the United States did in that prison in Iraq, just make me lose hope for the human fucking race.
It has to be terrible to have someone you love in Iraq, even if they aren't being killed. Imagine how horrible it would be to hear any of these things, then that last one as a final kicker:
1. "I'm sorry to inform you, but your son has been kidnapped in Iraq."
2. "We're really sorry to inform you, but your son has been killed by his kidnappers in Iraq."
3. "How did he die? I'm sorry, his head was sawed off with a knife."
4. "Oh, by the way, it was videotaped and put on the internet for everyone to see."
If that happened to someone I love, I think I'd just have to gouge out my eyes and walk the earth.
Fuck the dumbass in the White House and his fucking war.
Quote of the Day:
"The only officials who lost their jobs over Iraq were the ones who told the truth. Gen. Shinseki said it would take several hundred thousand troops to secure Iraq. He was retired. Economic adviser Larry Lindsey said that Iraq would cost as much as $200 billion. He was fired."
