Crumbling Infrastructure

Here's a rundown of what has been going on the last few days with the building I work in:

Tuesday, Sept. 7 - The place was packed with patrons, and we get the word there is a "problem with the sewer." Result of that: no water and we have to close the building to the public. Staff can go home but you gotta take vacation or make the time up. If you gotta pee, go to the history museum.

Friday, Sept. 10 - They were supposed to start working on the heating/cooling system. We had been warned it would be excessively cold, and we all dressed accordingly. Instead, the temperature climbed to 80 degrees by 3 PM.

Monday, Sept. 13 - We get the word, problems with the sewer again. Our part is closed to the public on Mondays, but they are booted from the rest of the facility. By this time we have figured out there is another goverment building closer than the museum where we can answer the call of nature. The temperature in the building is 62 degrees.

Tuesday, Sept. 14 - Word going around that evil stuff is oozing out of the drains in the basement. The building doesn't close. They dig a big hole in the front of the building and there is a tree growing up out of one of the pipes.

Wednesday, Sept. 15 - Sewer problems again. Building closed at 11:30. We hear what is coming out of the drains. I'm not going to tell. There are worse things to come out of the sewers than sewage. We get the word to leave at 5 PM and don't come in Thursday before 9 AM. We don't have to make up that time. They have dug a new hole near the side of the building.

I feel like I'm working on the Titanic. Updates to follow . . .
