Home With Anal Retentive Ex-Library Guy

I was going to post a big complaint about my landlord, but while considering it, my ever-nimble mind went off in another direction.

I had to have some maintenance done, but before I could let the guys come in I had to clear out and organize a corner of my bedroom so they could get to the window I was having problems with.

Getting this corner organized involved finally getting my CDs in order and onto some shelves and racks. I didn't really think about it until later, but I automatically put my CDs in alphabetical order, by artists last name of course. With two seperate sub-sections at the end: Soundtracks and Anthologies. But the one thing I do that may be odd, I'd be curious to know if anybody thinks so: if I have more than one CD by an artist, I put them in order by the release date of the album, its just always seemed natural to me. I put greatests hits and most live albums at the end. Thus, my Beatles collection stretches from "Please Please Me" to "Live at the BBC," David Bowie runs the gamut from "The Man Who Sold the World" to "Scary Monsters."

A further illustration of my alphabetizing skills:

Real Live Girl: You sure have a lot of classic books.

Me: Well, those books were all bought for the illustrations, it just ends up a lot of them are classic literature.

Real Live Girl: What kind of order are they in?

Me: Alphabetical by artist. If I have more than one by an artist then its either alpha by title, or in rare cases, whatever looks good next to each other.

Real Live Girl: Are all your books in alphabetical order, you ex-librarian you?

Me: Well . . . yes . . . but of course, they're sorted by subject first . . .
