My boss and I talking while we are cleaning up after my presentation last Monday. He had mistakenly said NC had passed a law forbidding the immigration of free blacks in 1831, I corrected him and said it was in 1826:
Boss: I can't believe I got the date of that non-immigration law wrong.
Me: I wouldn't have known if I hadn't transcribed that petition.
Boss: Its so easy to blame harsh slave codes on Nat Turner.
Me: Yeah, he really ruined the institution of slavery for everybody, didn't he?
