Computer Nerd Stuff For Real Nerds
Before I go any farther, a major correction to my last post: I said, "One of the many reasons they did want free blacks in the state. . .", what I should have said was "One of the many reasons they did NOT want free blacks in the state. . .". Only three letters, but kinda important.
I was starting to despair of ever getting my cable internet back up to speed. I finally had time to call them back today and we spent a long time on the phone trying different things. We finally determined it was my Norton Firewall. I had it set on "medium" like it had always been, but for some reason it was slowing everything down. I actually have a legitimate copy of it I paid for, and have been faithfully paying to update every year, keeping my virus definitions up to date, etc. But the version I have is 2002, and they don't support that anymore. Oh, so the $15 I paid six months ago to keep it current does no good? Well, fuck you. After a few harrowing minutes without a firewall, I downloaded Roadrunner's free firewall and anti-virus, and everything is now working swimmingly. So, the hell with Norton and their money-sucking habits. Of course, the cable company has a few money-sucking qualities too, but I'm pretty happy with them at the moment.
I finally found out my Roadrunner password too, so maybe I can get some real pictures uploaded on this site.
