White Christians: In the Minority!

My boss recently went to a training session put on by the Equal Employment Opportunity Institute. They learned about diversity and he brought back the following statistics, I thought they were interesting. I've worked with and met a lot of different people in the last ten years or so, but my world still tends to be pretty white, well-fed, and middle-class, so this helped put things in perspective for me:

If we could at this very moment shrink the earth's population to a village of precisely 100 with all the same existing human ratios the same, it would look like this:

30 of the 100 would be white.

70 would be non-white.

30 of the 100 would be Christians.

70 would be non-Christians.

80 would live in substandard housing conditions (insufficient roofing, no electricity or indoor plumbing)

50 would suffer from malnutrition.

70 would be unable to read or write on a 9th grade level.

1 would have a college degree.

The Follow-Up . . .

. . . is that 90 of the 100 would probably shop at Wal-Mart. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has put out their annual list of the most endangered historic places. Making the list is the entire state of Vermont, largely thanks to the above-mentioned retailer.
