A while back someone at work found an old census where the census-taker screwed up and listed the slaves by name. There have been a lot of press people here lately asking about it. Here is an AP story about it if you're interested. CNN carried the wire service story here and they even included an image from the census book.
Here's some more history nerd links:
Albert Underwood Civil War Diary. Diary of a Union soldier from Indiana. He seems pretty concerned with the weather. I guess if I had to walk or ride a horse everywhere I went, that would be a big deal to me also.
Instructions for the Virginia Colony, 1606. I like the advice to not let the natives know if any of the colonists die, otherwise the "naturals" (natives) might "perceive that they are but common men."
I've been hanging out with the Real, Live, Actual Girl again. I don't know what is going on and neither does she.
I enjoyed the hell out of the first 10 minutes of Kill Bill Vol. 1 on DVD last night (I haven't seen it yet). Then my DVD player freaked out and I have sound but no picture. I spent 45 minutes trying to straighten it out to no avail. Fuck.
