Good Friends and Divorce in the Olden Days

I have not heard yet about the latest wonderful job I've applied for. The last time I got a job was about five minutes after Ann walked in my door. I'm going to Charlotte this weekend to visit with her and go to the flea market, maybe the Going-See-Ann-Mojo will work again and I'll get the job Friday.

On a totally unrelated note ... before 1814, if you wanted a divorce in N.C., you had to petition the General Assembly. Yesterday I was looking for divorce records for some folks and found a couple good ones:

One from 1790, the husband wanted a divorce because his wife "brought a black baby to the bed." In another from 1804, the husband wanted a divorce because his wife "had become depressed and lost her sense of socialability amongst his friends since they had wed." In other words, his wife didn't like his friends.

I'd taken the cure and had just gotten through...
