FuckShitCrap
I didn't get the assistant Civil War guy job, neither did my boss. They hired some guy with a PHD, so that makes it a little easier to swallow. Crap. I am grateful though that I already have a good job.
Reading:
A Canticle for Liebowitz, by Walter M. Miller, Jr., 1959.
I'm so happy I'm finally reading this book after schlepping around a copy of it for 15 years. Back in the 1980's I took a science fiction lit class and our teacher told us this was probably the best post-apocalypse novel and I always remembered that. It is nice to read a literate novel, and a literate science fiction novel at that. By "literate," I mean a strong plot, strong characters, and subtle use of language. Not "literate" in the sense of stream-of-consciousness bullshit and no plot. There is a great underlying sense of humor and irony to the tone of the book and a kind of loving cynicism concerning the Catholic church.
