Antique Finds: or, I'm A Materialistic Bastard Part 964
On our trip last weekend we stumbled into an antique show on St. Simons Island. Like everything else on that trip, we had no advance notice and it worked out perfectly. If we had known about it, we probably would have freaked out and rushed through something else and worried about finding it, etc. Instead we just drove up, parked, and walked on in. It was certainly the prettiest antique show I've ever been to, situated in a little park near the waterfront with the lighthouse as a backdrop.
I picked up an over-priced, very atrocious, large, blue ceramic conch shell. The sticker on it said it was McCoy, but I don't think so. Ugly as it is, most McCoy pottery serves some kind of function, but this thing is useless. I also picked up a Florida ashtray with a little statue of a dolphin on it, it fits nicely into my collection of ugly ashtrays with little animal statues on them.
At an antique store near Lumberton I got a good deal on a couple of Landmark Books, the latest series of children's history books I'm obsessed with collecting.
For examples of the levels of hideousness that McCoy Pottery can achieve, take a look here.

I'm at work, so this should be fun, here goes . . .
"Recieved from the House of Commons sundry resolutions of this date entered into and agreed on by the two Houses when in Conference; which were read; councurred with and returned." (Zzzzz . . . )
--- The State Records of North Carolina, Vol. XVIII, 1786.

A Good Day
For lunch today I got a hot dog from the hot dog lady and sat between the History Museum and Legislative Building and watched the people. The weather was beautiful and I did not get any mustard on my white shirt. It was just one of those moments when you are so happy just to be sitting there and alive.
