Johnny Cash

I've been ensconced in the archives all morning and heard the news via Ed's post. After reading his and James tributes, I don't really want to add anything. There's a pretty good obit here, especially considering its on the MSN website.

Confederate Monument Jackpot

After I finished the railroad company work at the archives today, I hung around and pawed through a guide to their private manuscript collections in my never-ending quest for info on North Carolina's confederate monuments. I found the papers of a former Secretary of the Dept. of History and Archives. He had sent out questionnaires to all 100 N.C. counties asking about their monuments, he heard back from 96 of them and all their replies were neatly filed away in the bowels of the archives, waiting for someone like me. I put in a photocopy order, its a huge stack and I'll have to pick it up next week. I can't wait to start pawing through it, almost as much fun as sorting a grocery bag full of plastic army men from the flea market.
