Regular readers (both of you) may have caught on that I like the phrase "Wilmot Proviso." For an explanation of it, look here. It is one of the many goofy sounding expressions for events, etc. in that period of American history.
I found an article from an old Raleigh newspaper on the ol' Proviso, they seemed to have as much fun with the expression as I do, so here it is:
Hon. David Wilmot
The father of Wilmot Provisoism has come to an untimely end. The Convention in his District failed to nominate him again for a seat in Congress. The people are knocking the brains out of Wilmotism in all directions.
