I Am Become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds *

When I was a little kid, in my suburban, white-bread, midwestern town, there was a token homeless guy. His name was Regis. He was short and dwarf-like, with a long red beard. Regis wore an olive drab army jacket all of the time.

Somehow, the story got around that he was homeless because he had worked on the atomic bomb and had gone insane. I don't know how we came up with that, but I think its pretty good for a bunch of 12 year olds.

* This is a line from the epic Indian poem, The Bhagavad Gita written in the fourth or fifth century B.C. It was quoted by J. Robert Oppenheimer after the explosion of the first atomic bomb on July 16, 1945. That'll serve as the Quote of the Day for today also.
