The Banality of Evil or American Culture Run Amok?

I was struck by a recent Washington Post article that described the contents of Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz's home and one of Saddam Hussein's palaces. Aziz had DVDs of The Godfather and Sleepless in Seattle and some dog-eared Danielle Steel paperbacks.

What struck me as strange was a child's room in Hussein's palace that had pictures of Disney World, Snoopy, and Britney Spears.

We probably could have shipped a bunch of DVDs of Kangaroo Jack over there and opened up a bunch of McDonalds and a few Wal Marts and that country woulda been ours in a couple years.
