I said, "No! No! No!
I'm a doctor and it's true,
I'm a clean-cut kid
And I been to college, too."
Just in case anyone wonders what goes on in graduate school in the History Department at NC State, here's some snippets of a meeting I had with the guy who is my advisor, current Documentary Editing professor, and former Civilization of the Old South professor.
Doc: Now you want to have two spaces after this colon.
Me: But no spaces when I'm citing a multivolume work, right?
Doc: Good God, I found someone that's anal as I am about this.
Doc: (showing me a picture of his black lab, Kirby) This is the late, great Kirby, he had a big black nose.
Me: Where did you get the name Kirby?
Doc: The Confederate General, Kirby Smith, of course.
Doc: (Looking at an entry in my bibliography I did not close with a period) What the fuck is this?
That's higher education here in Raleigh, and I love every minute of it.
